Fatbike Frozen Forty Returns for Third Year

http://frozen40.com/

The Fatbike Frozen Forty is back for its third year and is expected to be bigger and better than ever.  Race day is set for Saturday, February 15 and will take place at Elm Creek Park in Champlin, MN.  Online Registration opens Friday, November 15th and will be capped at 200 race registrants.  The format for the race will be solo 40 mile (men and women categories) and team 40-mile (any combination of 2-4 people).  As the name implies, this is a fatbike-exclusive race requiring a tire width of at least 3.7 inches or wider.

http://www.greatlakesfatbikeseries.com/Once again the Fatbike Frozen Forty is part of the Great Lakes Fat Bike Series.  Race Organizer, Brad Boyd told me, "We're thrilled and honored to have been invited to participate in the first year of the series, last year, and we are part of the series again for its second year, surrounded by the good company of a great group of winter races."  This will be race six in a series of eight which includes the Penn Cycle Fat Tire Loppet and Cuyuna Lakes Whiteout in Minnesota as well as races in Michigan and Wisconsin.

This year's race will include a cash purse with equal payout to the first 3 places in both Mens and Womens categories.  While the headline act of the the Fatbike Frozen Forty is the solo 40 mile race, it can also be raced in a team format.  Teams can be any combination of two to four people, male, female or co-ed with laps to be divided up.  Registration fee is $45 per person (whether registering solo or as a team) until the end of the day on December 31st and $50 January 1st  - February 10th.

Elm Creek Park is an excellent race venue for the Fatbike Frozen Forty.  "In winter, it's a wonderful mix of tight singletrack with rolling hills, views, short climbs, and great riding.  Depending on winter weather, the trail can have ideal snow conditions, if it has been groomed for racing and if people follow the park's rules of staying off the trail at critical times when trail conditions warrant leaving the trail alone.  We've had beautifully maintained pristine trails the last two years, thanks in large part to some racers/volunteers who have supported the park and our race through their efforts." - Brad Boyd, Race Organizer.

The race will be a lap format with laps consisting of 10 miles.  A warming tent, food and beverage will be located at the parking lot if racers would like to stop off between laps to refuel or rest.  See map below for course layout and elevation profile.

The Fatbike Frozen Forty is well known for planning and communication.  Racers will be kept updated on the Fatbike Frozen Forty News page, RideFatbikes.com, Facebook and Twitter.  Media Partner Mountain Bike Radio will also be providing a pre-race interview/report.

Kristin with Triple F founder/organizer Brad Boyd
& co-directer Ben Welnak
Meteorologist Kristin Clark and race organizer Brad Boyd last year introduced one of the first race-specific winter weather forecasts in the country for a fatbike race.  The Fatbike Frozen Forty will once again feature Kristin's 2WheelWeather Cyclecast which will provide racers highly detailed, hyper-local weather information in the days leading up to the race.  Blog and video forecasts will posted to ensure racers are prepared for the weather conditions on race day.

"My goal in the Frozen 40 Forecast has been to provide an accurate representation of the weather conditions racers will likely face out on the trail. I’m hoping through this forecast, social media and television that more people will get excited about the event and help expand the fatbike community. Cheers to many more successful Fatbike Frozen 40 races!" - Kristin Clark

Race Vista Brings Bike Race Photography & Video To You

Race Vista solves the problem of finding bike race photography/video by creating a centralized platform to share and view visual media from race events.  The site was created by Brad Boyd from Ride Enterprises, LLC who also brought you RideFatbikes, The Fatbike Gallery and the Fatbike Frozen 40.

"Race Vista is an interactive platform to showcase the visual media from bike races.  It was created to allow racers, spectators and photographers to have a common resource to share bike race photos and videos.  We also highlight featured athletes, giving them a spotlight beyond what is found on other race websites.  We encourage race directors to contact us to find out how they can get their race featured on Race Vista!" - Brad Boyd, Ride Enterprises, LLC

Race Vista covers it all featuring Cyclocross, Track/Velodrome, Gravel Grinders, Fatbike, Road and Mountain Bike races.  Races aren't all that's highlighted, Race Vista also features deserving racers on its Athlete Spotlight page giving them their own page that includes a bio, race photos, videos and links to engage cycling fans and the race community.

For photographers, race directors, spectators and racers to contribute their photos and video, a hashtag (#) is assigned to the event for them to tag their media in Instagram and Flickr.  The tagged media can then be viewed on the Race Vista website under that featured race, in Instagram or Flickr.  It's a simple, yet effective way to pool all of the photos and video for a specific race so everyone can enjoy them.  "We are changing the way bike racing is viewed, by bringing races and racers into focus in a unique platform. See bike racing from a new perspective."

Would you like your race showcased on Race Vista or have an Athlete Spotlight page for you or your team?  Go to the Race Vista Contact page and let them know about it.  "We can feature your race with as little as 1 week notice, and we can even develop a photo slideshow or showcase after the event has concluded."
