Red Wing's Memorial Park Mountain Bike Trails

Memorial Park in Red Wing, MN has trails for all skill levels of mountain bikers.  With lots of leg busting climbs, fast descents and its beginner, intermediate and advanced trails, this is a great place to train for your next race or to work on improving your mountain biking skills.

Some of the trails are cross country ski trails in the winter and some were created by following old deer trails that linked up with the ski trails. There is enough mileage of trail loops to keep you busy for a while, 12.13 miles total is what the City of Red Wing states.  The cross country ski trails are mostly doubletrack and classified as beginner in terms of difficulty.  These link up with the intermediate and advanced trails for a more challenging ride.  You will travel through winding wooded sections, open fields, along bluff edges with great views, up challenging hills and gather speed on some steep downhills.  Keep in mind that the flow of the trails is clockwise, so travel accordingly.

There are a few technical features for the intermediate to advanced mountain bikers to practice their skills.  These include logs, a teeter totter called "Yo Mammy", skinnies, jumps and a grueling rocky climb called "Stairway to Heaven".

There are several areas you can park to start your ride.  I have parked at Mississippi Links Clubhouse parking lot and followed the paved trail that leads to the "Practice Tee".  It's a climb to get to the trails but it makes for a fast downhill run at the end of your ride.  Another option is to park at the Lower Quarry Parking area on Skyline Drive.  Parking is also available by the Disc Golf Area.

I really enjoyed the trails here and spent several hours riding them.  From the easy to the very challenging, Memorial park has it all.  I was able to get in some good practice on the more difficult trails to help improve my mountain biking skills and gain confidence in my abilities.  Memorial Park definitely is one of the premiere mountain biking trails in southern Minnesota and is well worth the drive.

The Minnesota Mountain Bike Series will hold Race #3 called the "Red Wing Classic" here on Sunday, June 17th, so come on out and participate in the Citizen Race or watch the experts and pros race.
