2021 MN Global Fat Bike Day Events

Global Fat-Bike Day is a worldwide grassroots campaign that started ten years ago to bring people from the fatbike community together to ride and make new friends.  In honor of Global Fat-Bike Day there are quite a few rides scheduled here in Minnesota and across the border on December 4th that you may want to get in on.  I have complied a list of them so you can get your "fat on" and ride with others of the "well-endowed tire crowd".  New events will be added to this post as they become available.

Big Ring Flyers are hosting their 7th Annual BRF Global Fatbike Day ride from UW Wanderoos in Amery, WI at 10:00 am.  This will be a casual 14 mile ride on the Stower Seven Lakes State Trail.  Wisconsin State Trail Pass required.

WOW… this means I’ve had my Fatty for 7 years! Can you slow your roll and ride for fun with some fab folks? Smile watts count! Tell your friends, tell your family, tell the kid down the street! All welcome! Pace will be easy/friendly, so respect the ride. I’ll have Whiskey the trail dog with so not too fast by any means. Dress for the weather of the day and 70-90 minutes pedaling. We will meet up in the UW Wanderoos west overflow parking lot and depart at 10:00am. Heading west on the Stower Trail to its end past Nye, then turn around and head back. Round trip back to the UW is 14 miles. We’ll gather in the UW for lunch, snacks, Bloody Mary’s, higher education or whatever you like. The trail is a rail trail (flat) gravel so we'll ride no matter the trail conditions. It is a state trail and I advise a day pass, available online. Contact Brian Headlee via messenger with any questions.

Angry Catfish Bicycle Shop and Coffee Bar and Minneapolis Bike Parks are hosting Adventure Coffee on Global Fat Bike Day at the Minnesota River Bottoms with coffee, donuts and a bonfire along the trail between Sibley House and the 494 bridge.

Join us for adventure coffee on Global Fat Bike Day. We will have a fire, donuts, and coffee on the bank of the Minnesota River between the Sibley House and the 494 bridge.
Hit us up at the start of your ride or the end of your ride or anywhere in between, it doesn’t matter when you get there we just want to provide you with one more reason to get out and ride.
We will have Northern Coffeeworks coffee and Bakers Wife donuts at a bonfire along the River Bottoms trail at the overturned car (2 miles from the Sibley House or about 5 miles from the Old Cedar Bridge).
We will have a limited number of disposable cups, so please bring your own cup.

If you’ve been curious about riding the MN River Bottoms or off roading on dirt/gravel in general, this is the ride for you!
Bring your thick tires! Think fat, gravel, mountain, or plus size. Depending on the weather, there may be leaves, dirt, sand, or snow. That’s half the fun of riding the bottoms!
We’ll meet at the parking lot of the Minnesota Valley National Wildlife Refuge. This location is accessible by the 28th Ave Blue Line station, but you’re also welcome to drive or bike to the meeting spot.
This will be a very chill social pace. We’ll ride about an hour or two, depending on weather and people’s energy. It will be an out and back ride, no one will get left behind! There won’t be stops to pump up tires, fill up water, or grab a snack, so plan accordingly. If need an accommodation to get to this event, please message me and I can try my best! Hope to see you there!

Stop along the Minnesota River Bottoms trail in Bloomington at the Lyndale lot from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm and meet the Minnesota Off Road Cyclists crew and Deepwoods Trail Grooming team.

Greeting Fellow Winter Cyclists,
Global Fat Bike day is fast approaching this Saturday Dec 4th. MORC (Minnesota Off Road Cyclists) will have a couple tents set up at the Lyndale lot from 10am-1pm, along with haybale seating, tasty warm beverages to enjoy pre or post ride will be provided free of charge. The MORC team will be on hand to answer questions about their continued efforts at the River Bottoms, volunteer opportunities, and the road ahead. The grooming tools that the Deepwoods Trail Grooming team uses throughout the winter to keep trail conditions in prime shape will also be on display. They will be able to answer questions about when and where they'll be out to both maximize surface coverage, as well as keep conditions consistent (monetary donations to cover gas, equipment, and time will be accepted). We'll also accept unwrapped toys for the Bloomington Police Departments annual Toys for Tots drive. At this time we do not have a group ride scheduled, but if you're new to the area there's bound to be someone willing to let you tag along. Side note: The raft at 9 Mile Creek is out for the season, and the ice isn't yet safe for crossing; so your best bet is to head east towards 77 and the Sibley house beyond that. While this day is specifically a fat bike celebration, all styles of bikes and riders are welcome.
